Current Sustainable Initiatives at our Video Production Office
1. Energy-Efficient Hardware and Video Production Gear
As mentioned in our 2020 update, we’ve continued adopting energy-efficient hardware and production gear. We meticulously select equipment that maximizes performance while minimizing energy consumption. By choosing energy-efficient alternatives, we reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a greener future. Our recent additions include power efficient CPU/GPU editing platforms, expanding our LED lighting equipment, and replacing office appliances and fixtures with lower wattage alternatives, but only when they’ve reached the end of their life cycle.
2. Office Recycling
Recycling is a fundamental part of our commitment to environmental responsibility. We have established a recycling program within our office to ensure that materials such as paper, plastic, glass, and metal are appropriately recycled. By giving these items a second life, we reduce waste and conserve valuable resources. We also separate our aluminum cans to be donated to Aluminum Cans for Burned Children, which supports pediatric burn survivors and fire prevention education.
Future Goals
Some of these may seem lofty, but are actually within reach!
1. Composting Kitchen Waste
As our office continues to grow, we will add the option to compost organic waste. Using a service like Rust Belt Riders. Food scraps and other biodegradable materials are collected and composted, ultimately turning them into nutrient-rich soil that can be used for landscaping and gardening. It's a small step with a big impact on reducing landfill waste and nourishing the earth.
2. Utilizing an Electric Vehicle as Our Production Van
Looking ahead, we envision transitioning to an electric vehicle (EV) as our production van. Embracing electric transportation significantly reduces greenhouse gas emissions and aligns with our mission to operate sustainably. This shift is part of our broader strategy to reduce our carbon footprint and contribute to a cleaner, healthier planet.
3. Charging Stations
In our continued efforts to promote electric vehicles, we plan to install charging stations at our office. These stations will be accessible not only to our employees but also to the public, encouraging the use of EVs and fostering a community dedicated to sustainable transportation.
4. Building a Solar Array on Our Roof
One of our most ambitious goals is to install a solar array on our office roof. This solar array will harness the power of the sun to generate clean, renewable energy for our operations and the surrounding neighborhood. By utilizing solar power, we aim to eliminate our dependence on conventional energy sources and contribute positively to the environment.
These future goals truly allow our goal of a sustainable video production office to come true. By generating and storing clean energy at our location, we can reduce and almost eliminate the carbon footprint of office hardware, appliances, and employee vehicles. Over the next 24 months we will be creating an achievable timeline for these goals.
